Sarah Michelle Gellar recently held host Howard Stern to account for his comments about her marriage to actor Freddie Prinze Jr. Stern had mocked Freddie during a 2001 appearance on The Howard Stern Show for marrying Sarah Michelle Gellar at age 25. Stern placed a bet with the actor, adding: “Although Freddie had timidly claimed that “it (the marriage) would definitely go through”, he had made a bet with him.
In about ten years you’ll find me and say, “Howard, I owe you money.” Sarah and Freddie were married on September 1, 2002, and on the occasion of their 20th wedding anniversary, Sarah posted images of Prinze’s interview with Howard Stern on Instagram, jokingly calling out Stern for questioning Freddie about their marriage all those years ago.
Alongside the post, Sarah added the identical screenshot to her Instagram story, addressing Howard Stern in the caption:
“What do you believe?!?! I believe you owe us.”
Prinze shared Gellar’s articles, hysterically commenting:
She will always remember.
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. had been friends for three years before dating.
On September 1, 2002, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. were married. with the wedding in Mexico. This Thursday, in honor of their 20th wedding anniversary, Gellar posted a beautiful photo of their wedding on Instagram with the comment “20”. In 1997, on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer, Prinze and Gellar met. They started dating three years later and got married shortly after.
In a March 2021 interview with People magazine, Sarah Michelle Gellar described the beginning of their relationship:
“There have been many meals. We were supposed to go with someone else but that person didn’t show up so we decided to go anyway. At dinner there were only two of us. We had a long car ride and a long dinner, and the events were just passing.”
Prinze kindly added that he didn’t want to go on another date after that night. He said:
“I knew we were getting married and that one day I would propose. I didn’t know when or how this would happen.”
Freddie Prince Jr. was questioned in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2020 about his long-term marriage to Sarah Michelle Gellar. In response, the Scooby-Doo actor humorously said that the best marriage advice is to never share a toilet. He joked:
“That’s my best recommendation… Never share a toilet… If they stop making you laugh, your future is bleak.”
The duo often expresses affection for each other on Instagram. Sarah Michelle Gellar sent a touching birthday message to her husband Freddie. She wrote:
“@realfreddieprinze’s birthday is today. I would often joke here. However, it’s also #internationalwomensday, and it makes perfect sense that you share this day, as no man is a greater advocate and friend of women than you. I can’t imagine a finer person to raise a girl with or teach a boy what it really means to be a decent man. Best wishes on your birthday, FP.”
The couple have two children: 12-year-old Charlotte Grace and 10-year-old Rocky James.
