Calum was raised in Mount Druitt, New South Wales with his older sister Mali-Koa by their mother Joy Hood, who until recently worked in the pension industry, and their father David Hood, who worked at Amatil Coca-Cola.
Mali-Koa is a singer and songwriter currently living in London, England, known for her singles “Pretend” and “Dancer”.
Calum attended Norwest Primary School, where he met Michael Clifford, the future member of his band. He attended Norwest Christian College where he met Luke Hemmings, and they sang a Secondhand Serenade song together at a school show. The boys released their debut single on February 5, 2014, entitled “She Looks So Perfect”, and it topped the charts in four countries, including the UK’s Singles Chart, the first Australian band to top a UK chart in 14 years. Their eponymous debut album came out on July 22, 2014 and topped both the Australian and US album charts, and their second album – “Sounds Good Feels Good” – followed on October 23, 2015, again topping the charts, this time in 10 countries. The lead single “Want You Back” from their third album came out on February 22, 2018 and was followed by the song “Youngblood”, which has been the boys’ most popular release to this day – their third album “Youngblood” came out on June 15, 2018, again topping the Australian and US album charts.
Their fourth album “Calm” was released on March 27, 2020 and reached number 1 in Scotland, the UK and Australia and appeared on the charts in 25 other countries – plus every single the guys have released so far has been in at least one chart.
Calum has also written songs for other artists, including “Teenage Queen” for Donghae and Eunhyuk, “Ride It Out” for Makeout and “Wake Up” for Black Veil Brides.

Calum has openly dated three girls, with his first girlfriend who the public knows is Caitlin Davis, an actress and producer known for her roles in “The Cobblestone Corridor” and “The Plug.”
