Mammootty age and early life
mammootty was born in Chandiroor on September 7, 1951. He grew up in the hamlet of Chempu near Vaikom in the Kottayam district of Kerala, India, in a middle-class Muslim family. His father, Ismail, was a wholesaler of clothing and rice and also grew rice. Fatima, his mother, was a housewife. He was their oldest child. Ibrahimkutty and Zakariah are his two younger brothers while Ameena, Sauda and Shafina are his three younger sisters.
For his primary school, he attended Government High School, Kulasekharamangalam, Kottayam. His father moved the family to Ernakulam in the 1960s when he attended Government School in Ernakulam. He completed his pre-university (pre-degree) studies at Sacred Heart College in Thevara.

Career
mammootty made his film debut in 1971 as a junior performer in KS Sethumadhavan’s Anubhavangal Paalichakal. Kaalachakram, a 1973 Malayalam film directed by K. Narayanan, was his second film and where he uttered his first sentence. In 1975 he appeared in the theater drama Sabarmati. Devalokam, directed by MT Vasudevan Nair, made his debut in the lead role in 1979. However, this film was never finished. Vilkkanundu Swapnangal, directed by Azad and written by MT Vasudevan Nair, was his first credited role. Written and directed by KG George, Mela was Mammootty’s first major role in an unreleased film.
