So far in his career
Prior to joining Sanfrecce Hiroshima in January 2013, Asano attended Yokkaichi Chuo Technical High School. He quickly amazed everyone with his abilities and won the J1 league in his first season and the Japan Super Cup in 2014. The following year, he helped the side win the championship for the second time and was awarded the J1 League Rookie of the year .
Arsenal signed him in July 2016. At the time, Asano said he had doubts about accepting Arsenal’s offer. According to him, he had always wanted to play abroad and had a few offers in the past, but was never sure whether or not to go. When he was called up to the national team, there were many players who played abroad, and playing with them gave him the desire to play and compete in a foreign league at the time. He was hesitant about accepting Arsenal’s offer, but felt comfortable with his choice after speaking to his family and friends, he continued.
Arsene Wenger, the manager of Arsenal at the time, praised him as a young capable striker with a bright future. He was loaned by Arsenal to VfB Stuttgart and Hannover 96 before joining Serbian club Partizan, becoming the club’s first Japanese player. He has been with VfL Bochum since June 2021.

Asano was born in Komono, Mie, and grew up there with his five brothers and a sister. His father was a truck driver, while his mother was a housewife. Asano attributes his humble personality to his family, for which he is thankful as everyone in his family got a chance to play football. He claims that having so many siblings made him humble. Yuya, his younger brother, is also a professional soccer player. He is currently an attacking midfielder for J1 League club Sanfreece Hiroshima.

Where does the nickname “Jaguar” come from for Asano? During an interview, Asano explained how he got his nickname. According to him, he is a very fast player and one of his former club’s supporters, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, nicknamed him ‘The Jaguar’. Other fans found out and put up banners in his honor. He acquired his nickname for his party.
