After working various jobs in Heidelberg to support himself financially, Sandro moved to Wellington in New Zealand in 2000. where he spent the next six years before moving to Nairn in Scotland.
Career as a visual artist
Sandro has been making oil portraits of friends and families based on Skype conversations for years, and this is his main source of income.
His art was first shown at the National Portrait Gallery in London in June 2007 and won a BP Portrait Award, and in November of that year his work was featured in the Junge Kunst 69 exhibition at Heidelberger Kunstverein in Germany.
His work was shown in 2008 at Krauts Projects: Creative Clash at Mannheim Castle in Germany, at PRESENT at HP Garcia Gallery in New York and at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. In the following years his work appeared in galleries in Paris, France and Key West in Florida, USA, while it could also have been shown at the IST Festival in Istanbul, Turkey.
In January 2012 his work was exhibited at the Lehmann Maupin gallery in New York and in October at Mediated Presence in London, England. Some of his most recent exhibitions were in Paris in May 2014, in Milan, Italy in December 2014 and in New York in December 2015.
