Greyston, of part Hungarian descent as both his paternal grandparents were Hungarian immigrants, grew up on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. In high school, he was attracted to music and started playing the guitar. This led to him joining a few bands and even starting his own hardcore metal band. However, he then moved to Vancouver to pursue acting, rather than a career in music.
