John Constantine’s demonic detective work is not over. Keanu Reeves returns as the titular demonologist and exorcist in a sequel to the 2005 film Constantineaccording to reports from Deadline and Variety.

Both stores confirmed that Warner Bros. is working on a sequel, which will also bring back writer Akiva Goldsman and director Francis Lawrence, who initially made his debut with Constantine, but has since had movies like The hunger Games and I am a legend. Goldsman’s Weed Road Pictures will co-produce the film with JJ Abrams and Hannah Minghella.

Other versions of the DC comic book character Constantine have since appeared in NBC’s adaptation that ran from 2014 to 2015 and, more recently, Netflix’s the sandman, but this marks Reeves’ return to the role after nearly two decades. An Abrams produced Constantine spin-off series would also air on HBO Max, but sources say Deadline and Variety it has been canceled after two years of development. The series, which is said to follow the series closely, hellblazer comic where Constantine comes from highlights another casualty resulting from the Warner Bros. merger. with Discovery.

But that is not everything – Variety and Deadline report that Mrs. X, a show based on DC’s Madame Xanadu, has also joined the growing graveyard of layoffs planned for HBO Max. Warner Bros. notably cancelled batgirl in August after claiming the film was “uncashable” but was probably just a way for the studio to save some money. If you were looking for the Constantine and Mrs. X series, though, both Deadline and Variety says Warner Bros. is confident that another network will pick them up, so all is not lost.

Warner Bros. Discovery drama aside, I’m excited to see what kind of hellish adventure Constantine van Reeves will embark on this time. Between last year’s premiere of Matrix Resurrections and another John Wick movie on tap, we haven’t been short of Keanu content lately, and I’m not complaining.
