Another bizarre week of 2022 in the pocket. I’m not saying this has been a bad year, but phew, it was the most. What happened this week? Goodness merciful. A hacker has obtained footage of Rockstar’s game in development and published it online. Logitech makes a Steam Deck competitor. And apparently it’s time to revisit Cyberpunk 2077? Like I said, weird week.

The GTA VI leak was a doozy in its own right, but I was a little disheartened to see how critical everyone was of it. In case you want to hear it from me: there is (probably) nothing wrong with Grand Theft Auto VI, based on the images. Games don’t look like games until release time. That’s why game publishers pay third-party filmmakers to create movie trailers for games in development. I’d be hypocritical to get rid of pre-launch speculative criticism, but I don’t want anyone to write off GTA VI because they saw a version of it they never wanted to see.

The other things that have happened this week almost feel airy and light in comparison. Logitech’s handheld may seem to have some guts, and it will run Game Pass and GeForce Now right out of the box. Also, it seems that the Cyberpunk Netflix advertising blitz has worked as thousands of players either return to the game or try it for the first time. I keep hearing that it’s good now, but since my issues with the game weren’t just about the bugs and glitches, I don’t want to waste any more time on it.

In personal news, I’m going to spend all weekend playing the early access version of Slime Rancher 2. I’ve been waiting for this stingy candy-bright sim game since it was announced last year. I say without shame that I put hundreds of hours into the original and that I want to escape again to its simpler world. If anyone needs me, I’ll suck up happy, smiling jelly creatures and harvest their excrement for money.
