MyMetaverse and Enjin said they have launched playable non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft game servers.
The MyMetaverse “MetaHome“NFT collection is the first minted on Efinity, an NFT parachain built on” Dot. Sydney, Australia-based MyMetaverse said these are the first in-game NFTs slammed on Efinity through the MetaHome NFT collection. The NFTs are usable in MyMeteverse’s full lineup of games, including players set up servers for Minecraft and GTA5.
MyMetaverse is a game development company specializing in creator-led metaverses with play and earn economies. It said the NFTs will perform different functions in three different games at launch.
The MetaHome NFTs provide a unique gameplay utility in each world where they are recognized. In Infinite car, a MyMetaverse Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 server, they are in the form of a rare vehicle; in Survival Infinitya MyMetaverse Minecraft server, the NFTs become a special sword.
I asked if these NFT integrations were specifically approved by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive, the companies responsible for Grand Theft Auto V, or Microsoft, owner of Minecraft developer Mojang.
In response, MyMetaverse said in a statement, “To clarify, the NFTs are minted on Efinity and can be incorporated into MyMetaverse Grand Theft Auto and Minecraft gaming servers. In Infinity Auto, a MyMetaverse Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 server, they take the form of a rare vehicle; in Survival Infinity, a MyMetaverse Minecraft server, they become a special sword. To answer your question, they are not official integrations with Rockstar or Minecraft.”
MyMetaverse is one of the ecosystem partners getting early access to make NFTs available on Efinity, with a slew of projects waiting to be onboard in the coming weeks. Enjin, the ecosystem for integrating NFTs into virtual worlds, is helping build Efinity, a parachain built on Polkadot and designed to enable fast and affordable NFT transactions.
The launch of NFTs on Efinity, a scalable, decentralized, cross-chain network designed to make NFTs available to everyone, is a milestone for Enjin and the next generation of blockchains built on Polkadot, the companies said.
“We believe the most valuable NFTs will be those that have the greatest impact on people’s everyday experiences,” Simon Kertonegoro, CEO and founder of MyMetaverse, said in a statement. “With usability in three separate games, the MetaHome collection is an exploration of blockchain-enabled, cross-game interoperability. Thanks to Enjin’s toolkit, it is now the first playable NFT within the Polkadot ecosystem.”
In addition to the GTA 5 and Minecraft servers, the MetaHome collection is already functional in other MyMetaverse titles, including the massively multiplayer online (MMO) game Infinity Realms. MyMetaverse uses Enjin’s Open Platform to integrate the MetaHome NFT collection into its gaming servers.
Witek Radomski, CTO of Enjin, said in a statement: “Enjin aims to be the NFT highway connecting game studios and their users to the blockchain. By leveraging Enjin’s comprehensive suite of tools and the scalability of the Efinity parachain, we are excited to partner with MyMetaverse to integrate NFTs into AAA games like GTA 5 — allowing gamers to own digital collectibles in their favorite games.”
An exclusive set of game studios currently have access to the Efinity development platform, after its official launch in March. Its newest users include Square Enix and Entropia Universe, joining an ecosystem of more than 100 gaming studios building on Efinity before releasing it to the wider development community, Enjin said. Enjin has also built a blockchain explorer, wallet, marketplace, and various developer tools to support Efinity’s growth.
