Popcan grew up in Portmore after being born on July 19, 1988 in Saint Thomas, Jamaica. Popcaan was given the name “Andrae Hugh Sutherland” at birth. He later became famous under the alias ‘Popcaan’. Popcaan attended “Happy Grove High School” for his formal education.
During his early years of education, Popcaan showed a deep love and passion for dancehall music, a popular form of Jamaican music in Kingston. Popcaan soon felt the drive to work as a dancehall artist in Jamaica. Later, Popcaan used his innate aptitude and skills to perform dancehall acts, with ‘War Hammar’, ‘Gilberto’, ‘Zebbi D’ and other favorites coming out on top.
