Rowan Atkinson was born in Consett, County Durham, England, on January 6, 1955. Eric Atkinson, a farmer and business executive, and Ella May (née Bainbridge) gave birth to him. He is the fourth and youngest of four brothers.
He attended Durham Choristers School, St Bees School and Newcastle University for his education. He obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. They studied for a master’s degree at Queen’s College, Oxford.
