Lego has announced a new premium set based on the 1980s arcade classic Pac-Man. The 2,650-piece set is designed to recreate a Pac-Man arcade machine, complete with a lighted coin slot, four-way joystick and a mechanical pursuit.
There’s a crank on the side of the cabinet that you can turn to move the characters through the game’s maze, and the set comes with a diorama of a figurine playing a smaller version of the arcade cabinet. On top of the cabinet are rotating versions of Pac-Man and the ghosts Blinky and Clyde.
The Lego Icons Pac-Man set will cost $269.99 (€269.99 / £229.99) when it goes on general sale on June 4 (it will be available for Lego VIP players a few days earlier on June 1). members). That’s the same price as Lego’s other recent homage to the Nintendo Entertainment System following last year’s price hike. Just in case the price and number of bricks weren’t an indicator enough, Lego has specified that this Pac-Man set is intended for those ages 18 and up.
The reveal of the Pac-Man set comes on the day 43 years after Bandai Namco (then known as Namco) first tested the game with members of the public in 1980. The arcade game is considered one of the most popular of all time , with Lego’s press release noting that it has been installed in 293,822 arcade units in the seven years since its original release.
In a fun twist, today’s announcement includes the fact that Pac-Man’s yellow color is inspired by the “iconic yellow of the Lego brick,” according to the game’s original creator Toru Iwatani.
