How to prioritize employee health and wellness to achieve success

As a health, life, nutrition and wellness coach, I have had the privilege of working with many business leaders and executives over the years. One thing that has become increasingly clear to me is that a company’s success is linked to the health and well-being of its employees.

In fact, according to a Gallup study, a missed work day due to mental health can cost a company about 100,000 $340 per day for full-time workers. During my job coaching, I have seen firsthand the positive impact prioritizing employee health and well-being can have on business results. Here are some insights and advice I’ve gleaned from my years of experience working with business leaders.

1. Lead by example.

First, it is critical that business leaders lead by example. I’ve found that if you prioritize your own health and wellness, your employees are more likely to follow suit. In addition, if you openly prioritize the health and well-being of your employees, they are more likely to feel valued and motivated to prioritize their own health and well-being.

Strive to create a culture that supports employee health and well-being. According to a study, 81% of large companies offered some sort of workplace wellness program in 2020, and rightly so. Wellness programs can help improve the health of employeesreduce absenteeism and increase productivity.

2. Offer programs and benefits to support overall wellness.

Common wellness programs offered by employers include exercise programs and smoking cessation programs. However, wellness programs can also include things like stress management workshops, mindfulness training, and nutrition education. The key is to offer programs that meet the needs and interests of your employees.

Mental health is a critical part of overall health and well-being. Offering resources such as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can help employees deal with mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and depression. EAPs typically provide confidential counseling services and referrals to mental health professionals, as well as other resources such as financial counseling and legal counsel.

3. Be flexible.

Flexible work arrangements are another important part of a healthy work culture. By offering flexible working arrangements, such as remote working or flexible hours, employees can manage their time better and reduce stress. I’ve noticed that many employees who have more control over their work schedules are less likely to experience work-related stress and are more satisfied with their jobs.

Finally, it’s worth noting that prioritizing employee health and wellness can positively impact your bottom line in a number of ways. These are healthier employees, for example more productivetake fewer sick days and are likely to be more likely to do so stay with your company. A work culture that supports employee health and well-being can help attract and retain top talent as employees increasingly look for employers who put their well-being first.

In short, it’s essential to provide employees with the resources they need to prioritize their health and well-being. This may include access to healthcare, fitness facilities, and mental health services.

It’s not just about offering health benefits, though. Ensure employees have access to quality healthcare that meets their needs. Likewise, offering fitness facilities or discounts on gym memberships can encourage employees to prioritize their physical health. By prioritizing the physical, mental and emotional health of your employees, I’ve found that you can create a happier, healthier and more productive workplace.
