Mike Houston is an American football coach who is currently the head coach of East Carolina University. He previously won the FCS Championship as head coach of James Madison in 2016. Mike was also head coach at Lenoir Rhyne and The Citadel.

As for his career, Mike started coaching as a defensive coordinator at Forbush High School in East Bend, North Carolina. He transferred to Asheville’s TC Roberson High School for the same position. He became head coach after five years as an assistant.
He was named Asheville Citizen-Times Area Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2004. In 2004, his team went undefeated, reached the state semifinals and won the school’s first conference title. Mike was North Carolina’s assistant coach in the 2005 Shrine Bowl, which they won.
In 2006, Mike became Brevard’s defensive coordinator and assistant head coach in their first football season in 56 years. Tornadoes won two games with an all-freshman roster.
The coordinator of Lenoir-defensive Rhyne is Mike. In his final season as defensive coordinator, the Bears led the SAC in total defense and led the defense. In 2011, he became a coach.

Mike became Duke’s soccer coach on January 18, 2016. He led them to two national titles and three NCS Playoffs. Mike led the Dukes to a 14-1 record and the 2016 NCAA Division I FCS Football Championship. In 2017, he led JMU to a 14-1 record and the national championship game, losing to the state of North Dakota 17-13.
