Cillian is also from Ireland, where both his parents worked in academia, while his father worked in the Irish Department of Education. With many of his relatives involved in that industry, it seemed he was inclined to follow suit, but things changed dramatically as he grew up. He became fond of writing songs and playing music at a young age, often doing these activities with his siblings.
He attended Presentation Brothers College, where he often got into trouble, realizing that there was no proper creative outlet at his school, but he did become interested in acting because of an acting course offered.
He set his sights on a career in the entertainment industry and started his foray into music, working in various bands with his brother. This eventually led to them being offered a five-album deal by Acid Jazz Records, but they chose not to sign because his brother was still in high school. Cillian later admitted that this was a good move, as he realized that signing your life to a label was not a good idea.

After completing a bachelor’s degree, he enrolled at University College Cork to study law, but eventually dropped out due to his disinterest. Acting became more than just an interest at that time, as he started going to theater productions.
