Norman Kali was born in 1978 in Hawaii, USA. He is a production assistant, director, and occasional actor, but perhaps best known as the long-term partner of actress Evangeline Lilly. His partner became famous in the television series “Lost” in which she portrayed Kate Austen. In recent years, she has become better known for her work in the film trilogy ‘The Hobbit’ and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Hope van Dyne of Wasp.

Early life and career
At a young age, Norman had set his sights on making films and participating in the creation of various film projects.
Knowing what he wanted to do, he became increasingly disinterested in continuing the traditional education system – at the age of 16 he decided to drop out of school and began doing various odd jobs around town.
After two years, he decided to pursue his dream and started looking for work in productions shot in Hawaii. One of his first projects was in the movie “Tears of the sun”, in which he handled location work, logistics and special effects. The war movie starred Bruce Willis in the role of a lieutenant who leads a team of American soldiers to rescue a doctor in Nigeria where civil war is taking place.

Further career in entertainment
Kali next worked on the movie “50 First Dates”, starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, and follows the story of a womanizer who falls in love with an art teacher, only to discover she has anterograde amnesia that causes her to forget about him every day. He decides to help her remember him and win her over for the next 50 days. The film was very successful and has inspired several international remakes.
He then landed a production role in the Hawaii shot series “Lost” when he was supposed to meet his future partner.
The show aired on ABC and follows the story of passengers on a plane who crash land on a mysterious island in the South Pacific. The show then features plenty of mysterious happenings during the performance, that’s about it considered one of the greatest shows of all time, having won numerous awards over more than six broadcast seasons. Norman then worked on “Dress”, “North Shore” and “The Big Bounce”, and in 2009 he was in production for the movie “Tropic Thunder”. One of his latest projects is the movie “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”, which also starred his partner.

Evangeline grew up in Alberta, Canada, the middle child of three, where her father worked as a teacher while her mother was a manager. At a young age, she was very athletic as well as academic and had numerous roles while attending WJ Mouat Secondary School. After graduating from college, she enrolled in college and worked several odd jobs to help pay for her tuition. She experienced car work, waitress and worked as a flight attendant.
Although she showed no interest in acting, she was discovered by the Ford Modeling Agency while walking the streets of Kelowna.
After consideration, she called the agency, which led to her appearing in several commercials and having very small roles in ‘Kingdom Hospital’ and ‘Smallville’. After that, she got her biggest role after successfully auditioning for the series “Lost”, a role she didn’t expect to win. She was almost re-cast because it was difficult for her to get a work visa to spend time in Hawaii – the show would prove successful and significantly improve her career.

Evangeline was then cast in “The Hurt Locker” which further elevated her career as the film won an Academy Award, in part due to her contribution.
She was then cast in “Afterwards” before expanding her career as a children’s book author. This led her to create “The Squickerwonkers”, which she promoted heavily in the 2010s. After taking a short break from acting, she returned in “Real Steel”, as she was moved by the film’s script; the movie saw her work alongside Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo.
She continued to work in films soon after, becoming a part of the Peter Jackson trilogy “The Hobbit”, the prequel films of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Her character was not originally part of the books, but was written to include a known strategy from Jackson’s adaptation.
She took on the role because she was a fan of the Tolkien books and had to undergo extensive training for the role. In 2015 she was then form in the superhero movie “Ant-Man”, and later reprized her role in “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and “Avengers: Endgame”. One of her latest film projects is “Dreamland” in which she collaborated with Gary Oldman and Armie Hammer.
Private life
Norman started a relationship with Lilly in 2010. Before their relationship, she was married to Murray Hone, whom she divorced after a year.
She also dated Dominic Monaghan during her time in “Lost”. Norman has now two children with Lilly – the two have admitted not believing in marriage, but are considering doing it later for tax purposes, among other things.
In 2020, Evangeline was drawn into controversy when she stated online that she did not believe in self-quarantine, sparking widespread criticism during the coronavirus pandemic. She later apologized for her statements and admitted she was wrong.
