Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson was born on November 26, 1988 under the sign of Sagittarius in Reykjavík, Iceland.

Basketball career
In high school, Hafþór began to pursue his career as a basketball player. In 2004 he joined the Breiðablik team participating in Division I. In the following year he was transferred to Premier League side KR, but returned to FSu in 2007.
