Early life and family
Rick Lagina was born on January 25, 1954 in Kongsford, Michigan, USA to George Jacob Lagina and Ann Lagina-Cavalieri. He has a younger brother, Martin, and a sister, Matina Lagina. The family was extremely close-knit, which opened up the opportunity for the brothers to create a lucrative business. While most of us can remember being unsure about the direction our lives would take when we grew up, Rick can pinpoint the exact moment when his life changed. reading the January 1965 issue of Reader’s Digest when he came across a compelling article about the mystery of Oak Island.
Fascinated by the mystique of the legend, he then decided that he would make it his life’s work to unearth that treasure.
Career

Before his adventures on Oak Island began, Rick had a very inauspicious beginning. While his brother Marty had a steady career in engineering and owned a winery and turbine business, Rick worked for the US Postal Delivery Service. This was a far cry from his dreams of greatness and discovery, but very few options were open to him for now. That is, until 2006 when his brother agreed to help him achieve his dreams.

In 2006, Marty and Rick Lagina bought back a 50% stake Oak Island Tours inc. The company owns a majority of Oak Island – a spectacular 78% – and generates impressive revenues from the tourism industry. This was the launch Rick needed to start the life he always wanted. While Rick had always been a staunch believer, Marty was somewhat skeptical, but Rick was soon able to prove him wrong. Once they qualified for their treasure hunt license, they began to find objects of real historical significance, if not outright value, propagating the legend—and curse—of Oak Island.

What is the allure of this island in Nova Scotia? What has been luring hundreds of people to its shores for more than two centuries? More importantly, what is the curse that would haunt this island?
While the legend began with McGinnis, it is believed to date back as far back as the Knights Templar, who set out on their pilgrimage as early as 1119. If the stories are to be believed to be true, then on the island of Templars are two of the most elusive items in history: the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail. This is not the only thing said to be buried on the island, as it is believed that a wide range of cultural and historical treasures are also hidden there.
Maria Antionette’s fabulous jewels and William Shakespeare’s original manuscripts are just two examples. The truth is that no one knows what is fact and what is fiction, and therein lies the appeal.
The Oak Island curse is a fascinating feature that emerged about a century ago. While the origin of the curse is unknown, it is believed that seven men will die before the treasure can be found. While most dismiss this as superstition, the fact that six men died in pursuit of the island’s treasure only adds to the mystique and promise that Oak Island holds.
