Nina Blackwood (ex Kinckiner) was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, on September 12, 1955 – her zodiac sign is Virgo and she is an American national. She is an actress, music journalist and disc jockey, probably best known for being one of the first video jockeys to work for the American cable channel MTV.

Nina has retired from acting, but still works as a disc jockey.

Early life and education

Nina was raised as a single child by her father, who worked for the government, and her mother, who was a housewife.

She spent only a few years in Springfield before her family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she attended Rocky River High School. She became interested in journalism there and ran the school newspaper with some friends, while also dreaming of becoming a popular actress and appearing in many plays. She was also a member of a band in which she was the lead vocalist and keyboardist.

Nina was smarter than most of her peers, and according to Wikipedia she enrolled in 1970 when she was only 14.

She later attended Strasberg Institute in California, where she studied acting and graduated in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in theater.

Career as an actress, disc jockey and other ventures

Nina started working as a model at the age of 17 and appeared nude in the 1978 Playboy issue “The Girls in the Office”, for which she received criticism from her parents and some friends.

She started her acting career in 1982 and appeared in the action crime movie “Sex Police‘, starring Wings Hauser and Season Hubley, and follows the story of a single mother turned prostitute who goes to work for the police to catch a pimp named Ramrod.

In 1993, she appeared in the comedy film “Reckless Kelly”, starring Yahoo Serious, Melora Hardin and Alexei Sayle, and which follows Kelly, an Australian outlaw, who gives the money he takes to the poor, pretending to be the Australian Robin Hood. One of Nina’s last appearances in movies before retiring was in the comedy musical film “I Crave Rock & Roll” directed and written by Carmen Santa Maria, starring Carl Ballantine and Tony Colitti, while also appearing in the episodic play “The Vagina Monologues” while touring the US in 2003.

When the MTV network began operating in 1981, Nina along with Alan Hunter, Martha Quinn, JJ Jackson and Mark Goodman were chosen to serve as their disc jockeys. She was with them for five years until she joined the entertainment TV news magazine “Entertainment Tonight” and became the host of their show “Rock Report”. Around the same time, she started hosting the music program “Solid Gold”, and appeared in several shows that aired on networks such as VH1, MSNBC, and The Discovery Channel.

She and Danny Sheridan, the late American musician, songwriter and actor, launched their own radio show “Nina Blackwood’s Absolutely 80’s” in 1999.

After the show became popular, they launched another show “Nina Blackwood’s New Wave Nation”, while today she presents the show “The ’90s on 8”, which can be heard on Sirius XM Radio. She also hosts another Sirius XM radio show called “The Big ’80s Top 40 Countdown”.

She has stated that popular English musician John Charles Waite wrote his hit song “Missing You” for her as well as his other ex-girlfriends.

Love life and relationships

Nina has been in several relationships, but the “most popular” of these was with John Waite.

The two began dating in 1980 after meeting at a party, and were together for over three years, during which time Nina had been able to keep him company at his concerts and travel with him on vacations to Europe and several US states. They later separated and John married a girl 20 years younger than himself, but they divorced two years later.

According to various sources, Nina met her unnamed ex-husband sometime in the ’80s, and they dated for over four years before getting married in 1990, in a small ceremony attended by their closest friends and family. They only lasted a year as they divorced in 1991.

Nina appears to be single at the moment and has no children.

Hobbies and other interests

Nina has been interested in music since she was a teenager and she fell in love with the harp when she saw it at the age of eight. She took classes for over five years and is one today professional harpist and also teaches harp to children. She loves to travel and has been all over the US as well as many European countries such as Norway and Italy while her dream travel destination is Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

She likes to watch movies in her spare time, and some of her favorite actors and actresses are Robert De Niro, Bruce Willis, and Nicole Kidman, while her favorite movies are “The Godfather”, “Pulp Fiction” and “Sleepless in Seattle” trilogy. She likes to read books and some of her favorite writers are Herman Hesse and Paulo Coelho.

She is a big animal lover and supports the organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), while her favorite animals are leopards and horses.
