John Rich Biography
John Rich was born on January 7, 1974 in Amarillo, Texas, where he spent his childhood. His mother’s name is Judy Overton Rich, and his father’s name is Jim, who used to be a Baptist preacher. He moved to Nashville after graduating from high school, where he began his music career. He worked here at Opryland USA, a seasonal amusement park in Nashville.
Growing up, John never imagined himself in music because all he wanted to do was become a professional team player. While in Nashville, he met and joined “Texasee,” a country music group that was later renamed Lonestar. His professional music career began when he was hired as the band’s lead bass guitarist. Occasionally he alternated as lead singer with Richie McDonald.

In 1998, John left the band to pursue a solo career and signed to BNA Records. He released two singles on BNA Records and an album in 2006. In 2001 he released the album Rescue Me, which he dedicated to Katie Darnell, a cancer patient who inspired him greatly.
They formed the Big & Rich duo with Big Kenny and recorded three albums for Warner Bros. Records. The duo achieved great success with their singles before taking a hiatus in 2007 and re-emerging in 2012. In addition to singing, the rich have written and produced songs for artists.
