Early life and family
Josh Owens was born on August 28, 1977 in North Carolina, USA to Cindy Owens. While nothing is known about his father, he does have a younger sister Chelsea Morris and is the maternal grandson of James “Speck” Owens and Hazel Cochran Owens. Even as a child, Josh had a penchant for motor vehicles and loved using go-karts, so knowing he wanted a career with fast-moving vehicles.
Career

Josh Owens actually started his career as a lumberjack. His years spent operating machinery, climbing and digging trees inspired him to open his own business in Polk Countr – Tree and Yard Busters.
Racing Motocross
His love for motor vehicles as a child grew into a career when he started motocross to race. Owens enjoyed moderate success in the racing world, competing in NCHSA and GNCC races. He took his first heavy category win in 2003 in the NCHSA Championship and the following year in the 250-B Championship. In 2005 he was promoted to 250-A but enjoyed minimal success on the track. Although he was then engaged to compete in “Moonshiners”, Owens did not give up his racing passion and joined the Southeast Gassers Association (SGA) in 2016. He made the bike he rode in that race a year later, and kept riding until at least 2018 when he was involved in a devastating collision.
“Moon Shiners”
“moonshiners” premiered on December 6, 2011, and was hit with a slew of public criticism almost immediately. The show features several people across the Appalachian Mountain who are all involved in the 200-year-old tradition of alcohol distillation, popularly called moonshining. The allure the show offered was a unique opportunity to get a glimpse into the lives of the illegal alcohol homebrewers.
however, the series did not appear to show much actual footage of the distillation in progress, nor was it illegal in any way.
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) requested Discovery to issue a disclaimer that would inform the public that “If illegal activity actually occurred, the Virginia ABC Bureau of Law Enforcement would have taken action.” Discovery Channel declined to do so, maintaining the illusion that the activities depicted are unauthorized.
Josh Owen was introduced to the concept of the show when Barney Barnwell, his riding mentor, enlisted him and a friend to build an underground distillery. Sadly, Barney passed away two weeks after the project began, but Josh and his friends decided to complete the distillery in Barnwell’s memory. Their achievements reached the ears of directors, who were eager to have the couple on the set.
Josh made his first appearance in the second season in November 2012, and continues to appear on the show as a regular.

Little is known about Josh Owens’ relationships apart from some veiled references to an ex-wife and “crazy ex-girlfriend.” Josh Owens was in a public relationship with Amber Layne Gabric for several years, referring to her on their social media as part of his family, but the relationship didn’t last. Although he doesn’t seem to be in a relationship at the moment, Josh takes good care of daughter Elisabeth Reese Owens and is obsessed with his dog named Cutie-Pie. Despite being bitten by a snake, Cutie-Pie is alive and well – much to the relief of Owens and “Moonshiners” fans alike.
Josh had an incredibly close relationship with his mother and was deeply affected by her death on June 7, 2011.

What happened to Josh Owens?
On March 16, 2018, Josh Owens was preparing for an exhibition at a Florida track when he was involved in a near-fatal accident.
Owens was riding his vintage 1919 Harley Davidson when one of the wheels exploded and the bike plowed into a wall. Josh suffered serious injuries, including a punctured lung, a broken shoulder blade, a torn rotator cuff, a broken left collarbone, skin removed from a finger, and every rib except one was broken.
Josh was transported to Halifax Medical Center, Daytona, where he immediately underwent treatment that allowed him to survive the damage to his body. Josh says he received excellent care for the first five days of his hospitalization, but then things got worse. Josh claims that when he revealed to a health professional that he had no health insurance but assured him he would pay the bill, he was taken off his nausea medication and given a pill instead of an IV and was discharged prematurely.
While Halifax Medical Center refutes such misdeeds, Owens explained that the blistering in his throat was still so severe that he couldn’t swallow his own saliva. He added that the left side of his body was practically paralyzed and his broken collarbone was still sticking out. He told the Observer that “I was denied care because of health insurance. There is no two ways about it.” No resolution was reached for the allegations, and Owens was left with a stack of hospital bills to pay.
This happened after Owens lost part of his finger in an accident involving a grinding wheel in 2016. He also lost his trailer in a fire in August 2017, when it caught fire, wrecking it and causing significant heat damage to the truck. to which it was connected at the time.
