Early life beginnings, education and achievements
Tara is of Persian descent, specifically from the Parsi who left Persia and are identified with their religious practice of Zoroastrianism. Growing up alongside a twin sister, she aspired to a career in the entertainment industry at a young age. Wanting to become a great performer, she began to study many dances she was interested in; she took classes in modern dance, ballet and even learned several dances that were popular in Latin America. She later trained in the UK at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), known as one of the largest dance organizations in the world with schools in 79 countries, where she attended throughout her childhood.
Other schools where she trained include the School of Classical Ballet and Western Dance, as well as the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dancing. She also showed a natural ability to sing and consistently performed in competitions, even performing in operas as a child.
Continuing education and acting career
After graduating from high school, Sutaria enrolled at St. Andrew’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce, where she studied for a degree in Mass Media. Founded in 1983, the university is known for its focus on undergraduate courses, with regular attendance of over 4,000 students.
While completing her studies, she was already active in the entertainment industry, first at Disney Channel India as a teenager, during which she was mainly a video jockey. Her close relationship with the company eventually led to her being cast in several advertisements, movies, sitcoms, and even music recordings. One of her first professional endeavors was in the musical “Grease”, playing the role of Sandy.
Become famous
Tara became known for her songs and recordings, which led her to travel to different countries to perform. She visited Lavasa, Mumbai, Tokyo and London as part of a tour with Disney.
She also collaborated with other artists such as Louiz Banks, Mikey McCleary and the Stop-Gaps Choral Ensemble – her vocal skills and her operatic experience also helped in this regard, and she was nominated for a Pogo Amazing Kid Award.
However, her fame really took off when she was cast in the role of Vinnie in the show “The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir”, an Indian adaptation of “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”. After that, she had a starring role in the show “Oye Jassie”, playing the titular character in the show, an Indian adaptation of the American Disney program “Jessie”.

In 2019, she auditioned for the role of Princess Jasmine in the movie “Aladdin”, and was a finalist for the role, but ultimately lost to Naomi Scott.

She then made her film debut in “Student of the Year 2” alongside Ananya Panday and Tiger Shroff, which was meant to be the sequel to “Student of the Year” which was released in 2012, but is a standalone story. The film’s actresses were well received, but did not fare well with critics due to its poor script and lack of depth, and did not do well at the box office. However, Tara received praise for her looks and performance, leading her to be nominated for a Filmfare Award.
Her next project would be in the action movie “Marjaavaan” where she portrayed a mute teacher named Zoya. She worked on the film alongside Rakul Preet Singh, Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh, and her role required her to learn sign language, but again, the film did not go over well with the critics – many disliked the fact that her stupid role showed her alone with scenes of smiling and crying behind.
Her next project is the movie “Tadapdirected by Milan Luthria. She will co-star with newcomer Ahan Shett in the film which is still in production.
She also signed a new contract for a sequel to the 2014 film “Ek Villain” in which she will collaborate with Disha Patani, John Abraham and Aditya Roy Kapur.
Apart from these films, she also appeared in the music video for “Masakali 2.0” by Zoya.
Private life
Tara is single and has no plans to look for a long term romance just yet as her acting career is just starting. She is childhood friends with actor Armaan Malik, though there is no romantic connection between them.
In her spare time, she likes to travel around the country and also does some modeling as a hobby. She continues to enjoy stage performances, dancing and singing, although with her fame she is usually invited to events as a guest or judge.
She is also one fashion enthusiast, and loves the 90s design style, which she often adapts to her current look with a more modern twist. She likes to wear gold jewelry and has admitted to being obsessed with beauty products. She also likes makeup; some of her fashion idols are Cindy Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor.
