Kazembe has had American nationality since his birth in the United States. His parents were from Arkansas and apparently were only 14 years old when they got married. He belongs to the African American ethnic group. He was born Samuel David Coleman, but changed his name to Kazembe Ajamu Coleman after taking a DNA test that confirmed his African roots. His ancestry can be traced back to Nigeria, Macedonia and Iceland. Kazembe is the descendant of sharecroppers.

In 2012, Zendaya made her screen debut in the role of Halley Brandon in the Disney Channel Original Movie “Frenemies”.
