Electronic Arts has released its year-end report, detailing the performance of its major titles across PC, console, and mobile. We got a glimpse of how the franchises are doing, including The Sims, FIFA, and Battlefield. According to the publisher, Apex Legends was the most popular unlicensed property, probably thanks to a big esports push. EA Games also tweaked to player trauma from a particular scene in It Takes Two.
Apex Legends’ newfound popularity appears to have been driven at least in part by a major esports push. The game has also gained huge popularity on live streaming platforms. In addition, the recently launched mobile version is also seeing quite a bit of success, although the stat given is “243.2 million Legends revived”.
Next to Apex, FIFA and The Sims have turned out to be some of EA’s biggest successes. The publisher reports that players have logged 1.4 billion hours in The Sims 4 and played 14 billion games in FIFA. Battlefield 2042 doesn’t seem to have that much activity, with 117.7 million completed weekly missions. Although the producers stated in a recent interview that they have faith in the future of the game.
At the very end of the report, EA also opted to rub some salt in a still-healing wound with the stat, “100% of players with emotional damage after encountering Cutie the Elephant in It Takes Two.” Since the game was recently released on Switch, that means EA probably added its new audience to that number as well.
