Japanese tech startup Aromajoin will unveil its fragrant video platform Aroma Player at the CES 2023 tech fair. This provides sense of smell while watching videos.
Powered by Aromajoin’s patented Aroma Shooter technology, the device can instantly switch between different scents without any delay. AromaPlayer is a web application that can be accessed through Google Chrome.
Kyoto, Japan-based Aromajoin said its AromaPlayer lets people enjoy a more immersive video experience by involving their nose. The AromaShooter is also designed to send aromas without leaking odors into the environment.
To use the AromaPlayer, start with a YouTube video link. Then you can easily start creating
adding a scent like peppermint to the timeline to set the perfect scent, timing and duration.
Previously, the AromaPlayer was just an offline standalone application developed since 2012
it was mainly used in digital signage. But with the new AromaPlayer Online, all creators are free to create their own scented content and share it with friends.
The web application is already there right here. The Aroma Shooter 2 scent diffusion device is already available in the market, and the Aroma Shooter 3 and Aroma Shooter Wearable are expected to be released soon, following a crowdfunding campaign.
AS3 and ASW will be available to both VR/XR developers and consumers. There are currently few
hundred different types of fragrances available ranging from coffee to orange to shampoo. Aromajoin is
expanding the fragrance collection to further enhance virtual and immersive experiences.
The Aroma Shooter device has a holder for loose fragrance cartridges. It works the same way as the way
printers handle ink. To release a fragrance, the device first draws in ambient air, which is then passed through
the fragrance particles released from a cartridge to create the fragrance. It then sends the fragrant air directly through
towards the user’s nose through its uniquely designed openings.
Aromajoin was founded by CEO Dong Wook Kim, who researched fragrances at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology in Japan.
