E3 is dead and won’t be back for at least a few years. According to a report from the Los Angeles City Tourism Commissionisn’t E3 coming back to LA in 2024 or 2025.
The news was a footnote on a graph showing the projected and actual number of hotel rooms booked for the city’s fiscal years 2022 and 2023.
Apparently, the city doesn’t expect E3 to return in 2024 or 2025. This news seems to contradict reports from E3 organizers, ReedPop, and the ESA. Earlier this year, the ESA – the trade body that manages E3 – announced it was partnering with ReedPop, the entertainment company that hosts major fan conventions like New York Comic-Con and Penny Arcade Expo, to host E3 2023. pandemic closed in-person events between 2020 and 2022, 2023 was meant to mark the in-person return of the video game industry’s biggest event of the year.
However, E3 2023 was cancelled, with Kyle Marsden-Kish, ReedPop’s global vice president of gaming, stating that the reason for this was aside from publishers not having game demos or reels available in time. But if E3 2024 and 2025 are also canceled, it suggests there’s something else preventing E3’s return or that organizers are considering moving it out of Los Angeles.
Despite the canceled E3, other events have been added to take its place. Last week, Geoff Keighley held Summer Game Fest with an Xbox showcase and a Star field presentation. Earlier this month, Sony held its own event for PlayStation, showcasing gameplay from Insomniac Games. spider man 2. Nintendo and Ubisoft also held their own presentations, with a week-long event for Steam going on now.
The press release announcing the cancellation of E3 2023 hinted that ESA and ReedPop would be working on future E3 events. In an email to The edgewrote the ESA: “ESA is currently in talks about E3 2024 (and beyond) and no final decisions have been made on the event at this time.”
