According to a report through TechCrunch, Meta confirmed that it has withdrawn full-time job offers that were provided to some candidates. Meta has not commented on how many people or departments were affected by this action, but TechCrunch quotes a company spokesman as saying, “While this decision was not taken lightly, it allows us to remain thoughtful as we adjust our hiring through 2023 to our highest priority work.”
A tweet from writer and software engineer Gergely Orosz claims this move by Meta has affected at least 20 people who initially had offers to start in February. The tweet also references a statement from Meta recruiters from last October not to withdraw offers for full-time jobs, with only part-time offers at risk.
Unfortunately, that policy appears to have changed, marking the first time Meta has backed out on signed job offers for full-time employees.
Meta isn’t the only one experiencing problems. Elsewhere in the technology giants like Amazon, Netflix, Salesforce and even esports brand 100 Thieves have laid off significant percentages of their workforce.
