Twitter has launched a longer tweet feature, allowing Blue subscribers in the US to post up to 4,000 characters at a time. If someone you follow uses the feature, the tweet will have a “show more” button in your timeline to prevent it from taking up your entire screen.
Currently, there are some limitations to the feature (besides the big one that it is behind a paywall). If your tweet is longer than the default 280 characters, you won’t be able to save it as a draft or schedule it for later. However, most of the other normal features should work as usual – you can add hashtags or images, and non-Blue subscribers can still interact with the posts normally.
Blue subscribers also get the ability to quote, retweet and reply with 4000 characters, so I look forward to people coming to my listings with huge essays.
There are other signs that the feature has rolled out relatively quickly: a Forget employee who tried it out found that the app kicks you to a web view after you write more than 280 characters.
Elon Musk has been longer tweets promise for a whilesaying that the company was also in the process of introducing the ability to add formatting to the posts, such as bolding words or changing the font size.
This isn’t the first time Twitter has increased the length of posts on its site. The current 280 character limit was introduced in 2017 and replaces the previous 140 character limit.
