I’m leaving for a week and everyone gets all acquisition on me! Sega and Rovio are apparently linking, as Sega wants to get on mobile and Rovio wants to get on consoles/PC, or so I hear. It’s not the combination I predicted, but that makes it even better. I look forward to seeing what happens after these two get together.
In other news, the PlayStation 5 appears to be on track to surpass the PS4 in sales. Mat Piscatella from Circana noticed on Twitter that “Sales of PlayStation 5 hardware units have now surpassed PlayStation 4 on a time-aligned basis (29 months in market).” While that doesn’t surprise me, it’s gratifying to know that gamers can get their hands on them in droves after supplies have run out for so long. Also, Resident Evil 4 Remake sold like candy, which I find even more gratifying.
I also saw some small bits of interesting news this week: Gary Bowser will reportedly pay off Nintendo for the rest of his life, despite being technically a free man now. It seems like a long way to make one guy an example, but I’m not a big game publisher. Guerrilla Games also released Horizon Forbidden West’s major DLC Burning Shores. In addition to the DLC, a thalassophobia mode has also been added, which, as someone with said condition, I appreciate.
In case you missed it, I was off last week and spent a little bit of that time catching up on video games. It wasn’t all video games I promise – I also went to a convention and met people who were into video games – but it was nice to step back and play some games that I wanted to play, not just to keep up with the modern releases. On that note, I spent part of this week playing Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened Remake. Having played the original during my adventure gaming dark age, it was very interesting to revisit it with nicer graphics and a slightly less gaunt Holmes. Give me some time, and I’ll catch up with Dead Island 2 too.
