PlayStation today announced its newest addition: Savage Game Studios. The studio will be part of the company’s expansion into mobile games and is already working on its first project. Sony had previously said it plans to make big strides in mobile in the coming years.
PlayStation announced the acquisition in a blog post by Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios. Of the new efforts, he said:[Savage Game Studios was] founded a few years ago with the aim of fearlessly exploring new ideas…. [It is] join a newly formed PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which will operate independently of our console development and focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP.”
Michail Katkoff, Savage’s CEO, said in a statement: “We entered into this deal because we believe the leadership of PlayStation Studios respects our vision for how best to work and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take risks. All that, plus the ability to potentially leverage PlayStation’s amazing IP catalog and the fact that we’ll take advantage of the kind of support only they can provide.”
Hulst adds a little defensively: “As we previously assured you with our plans to bring select titles to PC, our efforts outside the console do not diminish our commitment to the PlayStation community, nor our passion for great single-player , narrative-driven experiences…. Our mobile gaming efforts will be similarly additive, giving more people more ways to interact with our content and striving to reach new audiences unfamiliar with PlayStation and our games.”
