Universal Studios Hollywood today announced that the first US version of Super Nintendo World will finally open on February 17, 2023, almost two years after Universal Studios Japan opened at its original location.
The park contains interactive rides, which guests can activate with their Power-Up wristbands. It will have a Mario Kart-style augmented reality ride called Bowser’s Challenge, a restaurant called Toadstool Cafe, and a merchandise store called 1-Up Factory. There are also encounters with costumed characters and photo ops. Unlike the Japanese location, the US Super Nintendo World will not have a Yoshi’s Adventure ride.
In addition to rides, the park appears to have many Mario-themed locations, including settings of both Peach’s and Bowser’s castles. The Power-Up bands also apparently unlock additional features when synced to the Universal Studios app.
Universal Studios Japan is currently planning to expand its Super Nintendo World with more characters, with Donkey Kong getting its own area first. Universal also plans to open versions of Super Nintendo World at its Singapore and Florida locations.
